Imagine if your child was needed in an important game because someone did not show up but you have no idea that they are going to the game, you would be worried right? If your child did not turn up after school the time they usually do. Now imagine the game went to overtime and it was getting dark out, still not worried? How about if they did not turn up at all that night because there friend’s house was closer and they did not want to walk home late at night? To most parents this would not happen because their children have mobile phones so they would let you know but if they were to be banned at school then how would you know what happens to them?
Most schools do not want them because the students might get their phones out in lessons but the teachers who say this should ask themselves ‘Why are they doing this?’ The answer is most likely they are bored in classes so they text. This is not the student’s fault it is the teachers fault for not doing their job properly. If they are being taught well then they will not feel the need to get there phone out.
Does the school know what’s happening in every ones personal life? Like when someone’s mum has baby or a relative has passed away? Phones are a great way of communicating to people without actually seeing them. I was in maths one day and my friend was smiling and laughing. I was wondering why on earth he would be so happy in a maths class, so I asked him ‘why are you so happy?’ He told me that he has just become an uncle! If he did not have his phone in school he would not have known that he was an uncle! Also while I was in science the other day and my friend told me he had run away from his mum’s house. I asked him where he is going to go, he said I’m going to phone my dad at lunch and ask him if I can stay there. If he did not have his phone in school then he would have nowhere to go unless he walked a 1 and half hours to his dads!
Phones in school are vital for many different scenarios in school and outside of school. If mobile phones were banned then there would be alot of problems caused which can be easily avoided by not banning phones. All I have to say is ban mobile phones if you must, but watch what happens when you do...
