I had enough of betting in the tenement, I was more interested in talking about our ranch to George and Lennie but George was busy betting with the rest of the guys. So I went to find Lennie. I guessed he would be in the barn. I called for him while walking in to the barn. I was shocked to what I saw. It was Curley's wife lying on the floor; I was thinking what the hell is she doing here? I figured she was causing trouble so I said "you ought not to sleep here." Damn girl didn't answer. So I moved closer to her, then I realised she wasn't sleeping. "Oh, Jesus Christ" I shouted out. She's dead I thought to myself and I was worried about our ranch. I kept thinking that Lennie wouldn't do something like this would he? I had to tell George so I ran out and found him and told him to follow me. He asked "What did you want to see me about?" I couldn't say a word so I pointed at Curley's wife. He asked "What's wrong with her" but it didn't take him long to realise and he said the exact same thing as me- "Oh Jesus Christ!" He knelt over her and put his hand over her heart. I asked "what done it?" even though i knew exactly what did it. He looked coldly at me "aint you got any idear?" he asked me. I didn't dare say a word. George said "I should of knew" his voice sounded like he had lost all hope which made me worry. "I guess maybe way back in my head I did" I asked him "what we gonna to do now George?" He took a long time answering. Eventually he said we have to tell the others and lock him up. He reassured himself by saying they might treat him nice in there. I told him to let him go, because Curley would want him lynched or killed. "Yeah," he said, "that's right, Curley will. An' the other guys will" and he looked back at Curley's wife. My heart sunk when I remembered about the ranch. I asked "You and me can get that little place cant we George? You and me can live nice cant we George?" Even before he spoke i knew what he would say. I think I knowed from the very first. I think I know'd we'd never do her. He usta like to hear about it so much I got to thinking maybe we would." Geogre said softly. "Then its all off?" I asked. I was disappointed but also very angry. He told me he was going to work his month and blow his money in a cat house then work another month and blow it again. I told George "he's such a nice fella. I didn't think he would do this"
